workforce development

The purpose of the  IEC-FWCC Workforce Development Committee is two - fold.

1. Promote the electrical profession and encourage individuals looking for a career in skilled labor to make the electrical industry their career choice. This is accomplished by cultivating relationships with high schools, trade schools, and other institutions to promote the electrical trade.

2. Provide workforce training options that support the needs of member contractors. This is accomplished by analyzing industry needs and developing and providing quality training to meet the needs of the electrical trade.

Workforce Training at IEC begins with safety. As an approved American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) training provider IECFWCC conducts Adult Basic First Aid (BFA) and Adult CPR training for individuals seeking First Responder certification. To learn more about First Aid and CPR training browse the ASHI website or click on the ASHI - IEC link to find upcoming First Aid and CPR training classes. IECFWCC is an USF OSHA education partner.  The partnership USF and it's  OSHA Outreach Training Institute  gives IEC  the opportunity to provide live and online training to those seeking OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certification.

Along with quality safety training, IEC provides top – notch technical training for electricians seeking to further their electrical careers. IEC annually host Mike Holt Journeyman Preparation classes for those seeking their journeyman's license. Fire Alarm Systems Agent (FASA) and Burglar Alarm Systems Agent (BASA) certification classes are provided for those seeking initial and continuing education certification.

Adult Pre-apprenticeship training classes are also available for those looking to enter the electrical trade. IEC FWCC offers a 40 hour Basic Electrical Training Course as well as a 72 hour Intermediate Electrical Training Course.  The Basic Electrical Training Course educates students on necessary math and reading skills that lay the foundation for a successful career in construction. Valuable safety certifications such as OSHA 10 and Basic First Aid and CPR are also awarded at the end of the week long course. The Intermediate Electrical Training Course includes the curriculum and certifications from the Basic Electrical Training Course as well as in –depth and hands on instruction of basic electrical topics. These topics include: Electrical Theory, Blueprint Reading, AC / DC Circuits, Electrical Meter Measurements and Conduit Bending. Certification is also awarded upon completion in the following areas: BFA, CPR, OSHA 10, Aerial Lift, Powder Actuated Tools, and Arc Flash Awareness.

IEC FWCC knows the importance of training the youth for successful careers in the electrical trade as well as the construction industry. As a result, we continue to develop relationships with high schools, counselors and advisors in surrounding counties by sponsoring and participating in such programs as Skills USA and Pinellas County Pre-Apprenticeship Trade Prep Programs.
